“Life EWAS: Efficient & sustainable waste management methodologies using ICT tools enabling GHG emissions reduction”

The scope of Life EWAS project :

LIFE EWAS aims to foster innovation in the area of public and private interest of waste management by demonstrating the potential of new information technologies to OPTIMIZE current EU waste management operational methodologies and to establish a way forward for the standard adoption of a more sustainable model.

The 4th EWAS Work Meeting in Chania, Greece

The 4th Project Meeting of the EWAS Partners took place in the city of Chania, in Crete on 22 and 23rd of September. The meetings were hosted by DEDISA, and was attended by Kostas Paterakis, Iraklis Karabatsakis and Panagiotis Chatzirakis from DEDISA, Aida Anthouli from D-Waste, Ignacio García and José Antonio Cabo from Wellness Telecom, José Andrés Ferrete, José Luís Comitre, and Francisco Serrano Lobato from LIPASAM, and Ignasi Puig, and Marta Jofra from ENT. The days were dedicated to the progress of the project. There were presentations from all partners on the development of the tasks, the fulfilment of the first deliverables, and a fruitful discussion on the requirements envisaged in the next steps. Special attention was given especially on the technical requirements for the application of the sensors inside the bins in the two pilot cities, as well as the way to involve the citizens, and local stakeholders in the project, discussing on the Social Platform.

Life EWAS Regional Workshop in Chania, Greece

Life EWAS was presented to stakeholders during a workshop that was held in the municipality of Chania on the 25th of September 2015. The event attracted several stakeholders from the local authorities of Chania Prefecture and Crete, as well as waste experts. All partners of Life EWAS project presented the results of the project so far, and a fruitful discussion took place at the end of the event regarding the opportunities of using similar technologies for improving waste management and collection in cities.

Life EWAS in Athens International Landfill Mining Conference

 

EWAS was presented in Athens 2015 International Landfill Mining Conference (LIFE+ reclaim), on 24-25 September 2015. http://www.erasmus.gr/microsites/1050 The presentation was made by Marios Skarvelakis, D-Waste Expert. Also, in the conference Ignasi Puig from ENT presented a report there exploring the potential of landfill mining in Spain: “Landfill mining potential in Spain and review of preliminary experiences”, and Antonis Mavropoulos from D-Waste made a presentation on “Interconnectivity and the future of waste management”.

EWAS presentation in the 3rd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE on Sustainable SWM, Tinos

Life-EWAS was presented in the 3rd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE on Sustainable Solid Waste Management, which took place in Tinos, Greece on 2-4 July 2015. Marta Jofra, from ENT participated in the Conference, and gave a presentation on “Designing an intelligent waste collection system that reduces GHG emissions and involves citizens”.

Life EWAS was presented in the 3rd Forum on Environment and Local Authorities (III Fòrum sobre Medi Ambient i Món Local), which was organised from the Association of Municipalities of the Province of Barcelona (Diputació de Barcelona) in Barcelona, on 10th March 2015
The 3rd EWAS Work Meeting in Seville, Spain
All EWAS partners participated in the two-day meeting, which was held with great success, on the 3rd and 4th of March 2015, in the town of Seville in Spain. The meetings were hosted by Wellness Telecoms, and LIPASAM and was attended by Ignacio García and José Antonio Cabo from Wellness Telecom, Francisco Serrano, Andrés Ferrete, and Sol Cruz from Lipasam, Ignasi Puig, and Marta Jofra from ENT, Aida Anthouli from D-Waste, and Kostas Paterakis, Iraklis Karabatsakis and Panagiotis Chatzirakis from DEDISA.
